If you are even remotely thinking about buying a business, this could be one of the most important blog posts you'll ever read.  Take time to read, understand, and implement the knowledge being offered to get you on the right path.

## Buying a business demands more than enthusiasm

Buying an existing business can be one of the largest financial decisions you will make. Yet many first-time buyers begin with a listing, a few numbers, and a set of assumptions about what ownership will be like.

That is not a plan. It is the start of an investigation.

A business purchase involves more than agreeing on a price. A buyer must decide whether ownership fits their goals, define what they can realistically afford, understand the financial language, compare opportunities, assess financing possibilities, negotiate terms, verify what has been represented, and prepare for the transition after closing.

The consequences of skipping steps are practical, not theoretical. A buyer may misunderstand earnings, underestimate working capital, overlook customer concentration, discover that financing does not fit the transaction, or encounter a lease or third-party approval issue late in the process. A deal can also reach closing only for the buyer to find that running the company is different from reviewing it on paper.

The answer is not panic. It is preparation.

The market often puts business ownership in one of two frames: overnight riches or unavoidable disaster. Neither helps a buyer make a clear decision. A grounded process begins with questions, documents, verification, and an honest assessment of readiness.

The LOBO Buyer Trail™ was created for buyers who want that kind of preparation. Its central premise is simple: understand the road before committing to the journey.

**The course is currently in the first launch phase, and available at $593.00, which is limited to the first 100 founding members only.**

## A practical roadmap for the acquisition journey

The LOBO Buyer Trail™ is a step-by-step business acquisition course for people exploring a first purchase and for buyers already searching who feel overwhelmed by the process.

It covers how to find, evaluate, finance, negotiate, and purchase an existing business. It also teaches buyers to recognize financial red flags, investigate opportunities, and consider when walking away may be the appropriate decision.

The course includes **15 chapters and 90 lessons**, with **63 video lessons**, **13 practical Toolkits**, knowledge checks, and a final Buyer Readiness Assessment. The lessons and working documents are designed to help buyers develop a clearer roadmap, not to promise a purchase, a closing, or a particular financial result.

Its tagline makes the approach plain:

***“No fluff. No Lamborghinis. Just a clearer path to business ownership.”***

That applies whether the search is for a local service company in Hillsborough County, a restaurant in Tampa, a trade business near Lakeland, or a digital acquisition such as SaaS or e-commerce. The details differ by industry and deal. The need to understand the process does not.

## Who created The LOBO Buyer Trail™, and why that matters

Dave Britton is the owner of Lobo Business Sales LLC, a Florida business brokerage firm serving business owners and buyers throughout the Tampa Bay region. He is a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI), has been licensed in business brokerage since 2007, and brings nearly two decades of real-world experience helping buyers and sellers navigate business transactions.

His professional experience includes business valuations, financial analysis, buyer qualification, negotiations, due diligence, financing considerations, and the challenges that can arise between an accepted offer and a successful closing.

That experience matters because buying a business is not a single event. It is a chain of decisions, and those decisions affect one another. The way a buyer evaluates earnings can affect price and financing conversations. Offer structure can affect risk allocation. Due diligence can reveal information that changes the deal. A lease, license, or third-party approval can influence whether a transaction can proceed as planned.

Learning from someone who works in business brokerage brings the process into view as a sequence of real transaction stages, not simply a collection of definitions. The course is educational; it does not replace advice from a buyer’s attorney, accountant, lender, or other qualified professional.

### Meet your instructor

Dave’s stated philosophy is direct: buying a business is not about shortcuts, overnight riches, or flashy promises. It is about preparation, informed decisions, and understanding what you are getting into before putting money at risk.

## Who the course is for, and who it is not for.

The LOBO Buyer Trail™ is for an aspiring buyer who wants to understand the acquisition process before making a commitment.

**It may be relevant if you are**:

- A corporate professional or executive considering a first acquisition.
- A first-time business buyer concerned about overpaying or overlooking a problem.
- A buyer who has been reviewing listings for months and needs a more structured way to assess them.
- A career-changer considering business ownership instead of starting from scratch.
- A prospective owner looking at a Tampa Bay restaurant, service business, or trade company.
- An entrepreneur considering a SaaS, e-commerce, or other digital acquisition.
- A buyer who wants to understand the process before speaking with brokers, lenders, attorneys, or accountants.

The course is also for someone who may conclude that buying a business is not the right move right now. That is a legitimate outcome. Module 1 asks the question directly: **Should You Actually Buy a Business?**

**It is not for someone looking for a shortcut to passive income, a guarantee of success, or a formula that eliminates risk.**

A business acquisition requires judgment, diligence, professional input, and the ability to make decisions with incomplete information as the process unfolds. No course can make those responsibilities disappear.

## What the course covers, from first question to first 90 days

The course moves from deciding whether to buy through the work of becoming an owner. Instead of treating acquisition as a single negotiation, it addresses the stages where buyers need to prepare, ask questions, and verify information.

![A visual path through business acquisition stages, from evaluating a business to due diligence and closing, for buyers in Tampa Bay and throughout Florida.](https://cdn.marblism.com/XsXUkzn3Vzg.webp)

### Decide: Is ownership the right move, and what can you afford?

The opening chapters ask whether buying makes sense for you, what type of owner you may be, and how owner dependence can affect your decision. Buyers then examine acquisition budget, liquidity, buyer equity, cash reserves, creditworthiness, and debt service as course topics.

That distinction matters: purchase price and acquisition budget are not the same thing. The price is only one part of the financial picture. A buyer must also consider how the purchase may be funded and what resources may be needed around the transaction. Specific financing choices belong in conversations with qualified lenders and advisors.

The **Build Your Buy Box** chapter helps buyers define geography, industry, earnings requirements, owner involvement, acquisition range, and deal breakers. A clear Buy Box can help a buyer use time more deliberately, whether searching in Tampa, Brandon, Wesley Chapel, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, or beyond.

### Speak the language: Learn what the numbers mean

Before a buyer can analyze a business for sale, the terms used in marketing materials and discussions need to be understood.

The course explains revenue, gross profit, net income, Seller’s Discretionary Earnings (SDE), EBITDA, add-backs, normalization, owner compensation, assets, inventory, goodwill, and working capital. The goal is not to turn a buyer into an accountant. It is to help the buyer recognize what is being discussed, ask informed questions, and know when a figure needs professional review.

An add-back, for example, is not automatically a valid adjustment just because it appears in a seller’s or broker’s presentation. The buyer’s task is to understand what the item represents and how it is supported. Similarly, reported earnings and cash available to a new owner should not be treated as interchangeable without considering the business, its expenses, and the buyer’s operating role.

### Value: Understand asking price versus value

The chapter on what a business is actually worth addresses asking price, earnings multiples, comparable sales, risk, and transferability. It also introduces the question of when professional valuation work may be appropriate.

The key buyer lesson is to avoid treating an asking price as proof of value. Nor does a single earnings figure tell the whole story. A buyer must consider what earnings are being presented, how they were calculated, how dependent the business is on its owner, and whether the operation can transfer to a new owner.

This is central to learning how to value a business before buying: understand the inputs, examine the assumptions, and ask what would need to be true for the opportunity to make sense for you.

### Find and qualify: Search, then become a buyer brokers take seriously

The course covers finding opportunities both on-market and off-market, screening them efficiently, and deciding which ones merit further investigation.

It then turns the lens toward the buyer. The chapter on how business brokers evaluate buyers covers confidentiality agreements, proof of funds, qualification, and how to present yourself as a serious and prepared buyer. The point is not to perform for a broker. It is to understand what information may be requested and why confidentiality and qualification are part of the process.

### Finance: Learn the vocabulary before lender conversations

The financing chapter introduces SBA, conventional, and seller financing as course topics, alongside capital stacks, debt service, and lender readiness. It is educational, not a loan recommendation or a claim that a particular buyer or transaction will qualify.

For example, the U.S. Small Business Administration describes its 7(a) program as one that can support certain changes of ownership, with applications made through participating lenders. Buyers should consult lenders directly about current program rules, eligibility, documentation, and whether any financing approach fits their circumstances.

The course’s purpose is to give buyers a foundation for understanding financing conversations, not to replace them.

### Analyze, offer, and verify

Once an opportunity appears worth examining, the buyer needs a way to move beyond the listing summary. The course covers financial trends, add-backs, quality of earnings, customer and owner concentration, operational red flags, and the choice to investigate, question, or pass.

Then come offers and negotiations. Buyers learn about price versus structure, letters of intent (LOIs), deposits, contingencies, seller financing, working capital, and terms beyond price. Just as important, the course addresses knowing when to walk away.

Due diligence follows, with the principle “Trust, but Verify.” Topics include financials, customers, employees, vendors, assets, inventory, leases, operations, contracts, licensing, insurance, legal issues, and what to do when something does not add up. The course discusses the possibility of renegotiating, restructuring, or walking away, but transaction-specific decisions belong with the buyer and the appropriate professional advisors.

### Close, transition, and operate

An accepted offer is not the same as a completed acquisition. The course covers the path from accepted offer to closing: building a closing team, coordinating financing, landlord and third-party approvals, licensing, insurance, final verification, documents, funding, closing day, training, and transition.

After closing comes the work of becoming the owner. The course’s post-closing chapter, titled “Congratulations. You Own the Damn Thing,” addresses seller transition, knowledge transfer, employees, customers, vendors, cash protection, and avoiding unnecessary disruption by changing everything immediately.

It also focuses on the first 30–90 days as owner. The objective is to prepare for the transition, not predict how any particular business will perform.

The final chapter asks, **Are You Actually Ready?** The course ends with a Buyer Readiness Assessment, not a promise of riches.

## Thirteen Toolkits turn lessons into working documents

The course includes 13 practical, downloadable **LOBO Buyer Toolkit™** documents. They are intended to help buyers apply ideas from the lessons to their own search and decisions.

Examples listed in the curriculum include:

- Business Ownership Self-Assessment
- Acquisition Budget & Financial Readiness
- Build Your Buy Box
- Business Opportunity Scorecard
- Offer Strategy & LOI Checklist
- Due Diligence Master Checklist
- Acquisition Closing Roadmap
- First 90 Days Ownership Plan

The course also includes **LOBO Knowledge Check™** quizzes. These knowledge checks provide recurring opportunities to review concepts while moving through the lessons.

A checklist does not replace judgment, due diligence, or professional advice. It can, however, help a buyer organize questions and identify where more information is needed.

## Why this course takes a different approach

The LOBO Buyer Trail™ does not present business ownership as a shortcut or promise of passive income. Its stated position is practical and direct: “No fluff. No Lamborghinis.”

The course addresses the unglamorous middle of a transaction: financing conversations, lease and landlord approvals, third-party consents, licensing, verification, closing coordination, and seller transition. These are not side details. They are part of understanding how a purchase moves from interest to ownership.

It also takes seriously the possibility that the right decision is not to buy a particular business, or not to buy at all. A buyer who can recognize a mismatch, ask for support, or pause before committing is making a decision. That is not failure.

This perspective may suit a buyer searching for a local business in Tampa Bay or Central Florida, as well as someone evaluating a digital business from elsewhere. The underlying process (understanding financial information, assessing risk, preparing an offer, verifying claims, and planning for transition) requires attention in either setting.

## Common questions from prospective buyers

### How much does The LOBO Buyer Trail™ cost?

### What is included?

The course page lists 15 chapters and 90 lessons, including 63 video lessons, 13 practical Toolkits, knowledge checks, and a final Buyer Readiness Assessment.

### How much time does the course take?

The course information provided does not specify a total time commitment. Review the live [course page](https://dave-s-site-b554.thinkific.com/products/courses/the-lobo-buyer-trail) for current details.

### Is it only for buyers in Florida?

No. The course is designed around the business acquisition journey and may be relevant to buyers elsewhere. Lobo Business Sales LLC serves the Tampa Bay region, so the instructor’s brokerage perspective is rooted in that market. Buyers should verify local requirements and transaction details with relevant professionals in their location.

### What if I decide buying is not for me?

That is a reasonable possibility. The first module addresses whether you should actually buy a business, and the course’s final Buyer Readiness Assessment asks buyers to evaluate their readiness. The course is intended to educate, not push anyone toward a purchase.

### What about refunds, availability, or other enrollment terms?

## Decide whether you are ready to take the next step

A disciplined buyer does not confuse motivation with readiness. Readiness means understanding the process ahead, knowing what questions remain, and being prepared to investigate rather than assume.

The LOBO Buyer Trail™ brings the journey into one structured educational program: **15 chapters, 90 lessons, 63 video lessons, 13 practical Toolkits, knowledge checks, and a final Buyer Readiness Assessment.** The course costs **$593.00**.
